A handheld RFID reader is a battery-operated wireless scanner that reads RFID tags in real-time for inventory and asset tracking. The device emits radio waves and identifies which tags are nearby and pulls information from the received data. Direct line of sight of each tag is not necessary and can be scanned very quickly with much greater distance than a scanner. It is very similar to a barcode scanner but more efficient in both speed and distance.
2. Why would someone select a handheld RFID reader over a fixed reader?
The biggest benefit is being mobile. A handheld scanner allows you to move freely which is ideal for spot checks, field audits, and warehouse situations that are not static. Fixed infrastructure is not practical in many situations and a handheld reader works well in those scenarios.
